Problem

200+ million Sub-Saharan women and children walk more than 1 hour
to wait up to 5 hours for a 45 seconds nurse consultation. They pay $7-10 per visit/prescription and miss a full days work, a total cost of 10% of family income.

Solution

For rural Africans women who lack easy access to health services, but have access to a smartphone, DOKTA is their community doctor in their pocket.

Differentiators

DOKTA targets top illnesses, most effective preventive measures, and most common first aid needs. DOKTA turns local mothers into village heroes that save time, money and pain for their communities. DOKTA is the only solution that saves time and generates income for its customers.

Entry market

DOKTA leverages the Kenyan 50% smartphone penetration and mobile payment system and targets rural village mothers through women Chamas and Saccos (1/3 of Kenyans are members).

Right customer: 46 mothers interviews and 15 family interviews across 5 Kenyan counties of Laikipa, Embu, Niyeri, Meru and Nairobi.

Right promise: Smartphone mothers confirm interest to buy to secure health, save time and money, and become the community go-to person for health. 

Product + Delivery

Right product: Mock-ups and prototypes tested on 18 mothers and improved in several iterations. User Experience and Interaction tested and validated. Technology feasibility screened.

Right delivery model: Smartphone and mobile payment saturation confirmed. Chamos and Saccos interest confirmed. Telco and Mobile players to be decided.

Revenue Model

Right revenue model: Pay-per-use aligns interest of Dokta and its investors with interest of the customers and facilitates option to monetize customers’ customers access. Price-point to be tested in pilot.
